My Land and My People Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Now it was time for the Dalai Lama to escape. He knew that the people were going to keep on trapping him and preventing him to go to the Chinese camp even if he told them that he wasn't going. That is why decided to leave secretly with telling him. He informed all of hi closest and more trustworthy friends to come with him. This included the Cabinet, fellow monks, officials, and of course his own family. Along with the group soldiers or the "Khampas" would help him escape (these peopler from the Dalai Lama's homeland and it is said that a Khampa never goes out without a rifle as a sign of strength). They respected the Dalai Lama and would do whatever he says.

The Dalai Lama couldn't tell them to stop fighting anymore because they had already sacrificed their family and friends to make it this far. Besides that eh also admired them for their courage and bravery to try defend Tibet from China.  So the Dalai Lama tried to gather as much stuff as he could which wasn't a lot. Only two robes or (spare clothes). The others grabbed food and clothes of their own to use. There was no time to go into the Monastery's treasury and get any of the jewels that the Dalai Lama had inherited because they were to leave immediately. When everyone was ready they quietly headed toward the gate and passed through it.

After everyone got through they started walking on the road towards India. A few minutes after they left the gate a group of soldiers were walking towards them. At first we were worried on who they were, but as we looked closer we realized they were part of the Khampas (by the way I didn't mention this but the Khampas are also the ones who are fighting the Chinese and have basically turned into guerrillas. Bunches of people in Lhasa and other towns joined them in order to fight off the Chinese and they have already been a few battles with the Chinese). Then they all stopped and one of them spoke with a monk. Then the monk told the Dalai Lama that he was one of the Khampa's leaders and it was a great honor to meet him.

Then the Khampa Leader went over to him and told the Dalai Lama something he never expected. The Chinese have already warned the Dalai Lama that they would attack "Norbulingka" (place where the Dalai Lama was before) if the people continued to block you and barricade the road to China. I guess they weren't living because the Chinese bombed the whole area. When they found out that the Dalai Lama wasn't there they realized that he had escaped. Now the Dalai Lama was worried. What would happen to his group and the soldiers if the Chinese found them. Obviously they didn't care if they killed him because they bombed the whole place without asking him to leave.

Well thats it for today's post. Yesterday I already wrote about chapter 10 in "My Land and My People". Just so you know the Dalai Lama in this one is the 14th. Right now the current Dalai Lama is the 15th. I think that almost every single Dalai Lama that lives a long life writes a story about it. The reason I say long life is because some Dalai Lama's didn't last as long as they had hoped to, lets just say that.  I just don't get why they don't say the name of the Dalai Lama if if he is the author of the book. It literally says "The Dalai Lama" right after the title of the book. I guess its not really a big issue because you can just go on the internet and search that up. Anyway thats all for today's post. See you next time.
