Yesterday I watched a really good movie called, “Crazy Rich Asians””. I just felt that since I’m Asian and Buddhists are typically seen as the most “Asian” when it comes to that term it felt like my duty to watch this movie. Besides, the first trailer was super funny. My mom called an Uber for me to pick me up from my house and take me to Newport Mall. There, we ate a bit of food and relaxed before my movie started. Unfortunately, my mom and sister couldn’t watch it because there was only one seat and the two of them wanted to watch it together, so they let me take that last spot instead. Instead, they watched an Indian movie, which my sister didn’t mind. Anyway, “Crazy Rich Asians”, is about a woman named “Racheal Chu” who is born in America (New York) and meets a man named, “Nick Young” who she thought was in the same financial state as him.
However, as the movie progresses Nick asks Racheal if she will let him take her to Singapore where they can meet Nick’s parents. Racheal had no problem but while they were talking a woman took a picture of them who was actually spying on him as a request from Nick’s mother. She sent the picture to all of her friends and the family so that they would know who Nick was dating. The reason Nick wanted to take Racheal to Singapore was because he wanted her to meet his parents but also because he would be the best man for Collin, his brother’s wedding. It was when they got into first class at the American Express airlines that Racheal realized just how rich he and his family really were. Of course she didn’t mind and for the next few days they had a great time meeting up with Collin and his wife who Racheal quickly became friends with.
Eventually, Racheal was invited to Nick’s parents mansion and met most of his family. She even mistook the cook as his grandmother. Thankfully, he met the real grandmother at the end of the party at his family’s mansion. Nick’s mother didn’t like Racheal because she was a foreigner and apparently kept Nick away from coming to Singapore last year as well as influencing him with American traditions. Nick told Rachael that he chose to stay in America because of her so it wasn’t her doing and it’s not his fault he’s been getting used to an American accent. In the end of the movie Racheal is able to stand up to his mother by turning down Nick’s marriage proposal and reminding his mother that if she had said yes she would have taken Nick away from his family but because she said no he will forever resent his own mother. That’s when the mom decided to tell Nick Young to propose a second time but with her consent and Racheal knew that she had come to her senses so she said yes. Together, Racheal and Nick’s mom both just wanted him to be happy and in the end both got what they wanted.
