It's still 10:00 A.M so I haven't really done anything that "special". That's why for today's post I'll be summarizing, "Memory Maze", by "Gordan Korman". Gordan Korman has also made books such as "Restart" and I really enjoyed reading it. Some background information about the book, the protagonist is "Jackson Opus" and his family has moved along with him to a small town in the middle of nowhere. They have moved from "New York City" to escape Dr. Mako! A man who was using Jackson Opus's hypnotic powers to dramatically change a presidential election. Jackson's family had to delete all their files or at least try to get rid of as much as they could using the hypnotic powers. Both the mom and dad don't have these abilities, unlike their son Jackson and a man named, "Alex" who has decided to help them protect the boy.

Summary

Jackson Opus was walking back from school when he saw his house. It brought back memories of his old home in New York City, that place was luxurious and he even had his own personal waiter. This was all because of Dr. Mako. However, once he found out that the man himself was actually using him Jackson and his family moved away to a cramped apartment. Inside of the house, Jackson went upstairs to his room and talked with "Alex". The old man had left the Sandman's guild which he had been the leader of in New York to help Jackson gain a better understanding of his Mesmeric powers. These powers date back to the times of the Egyptians. There are two generations holding these powers. The Sparks and the Opuses, to some coincidence Jackson's mom is a Spark and his dad is an Opus. So Jackson's hypnotic powers are increased by two.

Anyway, as the days go past the CIA are trying to find the source of the election crisis. They've been hearing reports of a strange voice telling them to vote for one of the elected candidates of the United States of America. At first, they thought it was just weird and put it on an unimportant case. However, one of their members has made the case take a turn. Why would a case like this be called, "Unimportant" if millions of people are saying that they've heard that sound before? Now the CIA has taken a new approach and have found Jackson Opus. Jackson decides that he needs to face Dr. Mako but meets an old man named, "Eisenhower". He says that he knows about Jackson's identity as a hypnotist and wants the kid to hypnotize him into a deep sleep.

Apparently, this will slow the effects of his old age and give the man more time until his private researchers can discover a cure for a longer life. Jackson agrees but only because he can get $500,000 from Mr. Eisenhower and hopefully help his parents get back on the right track. As the story goes on this plan turns itself around for the worse and Jackson starts to get more "controlled" by Dr. Mako. He starts hearing the word Liam and think's it's his long-lost brother that his parents abandoned. In the end, Jackson faces Dr. Mako and realizes it was his plan this whole time. There wasn't any "lost brother" called Liam and Mr. Eisenhower himself had died. Thankfully, the CIA came and rescued Jackson from Mako. Jackson feels bad he wasn't able to help Mr. Eisenhower knowing the old man just wanted to live a little longer.

Google News

There is this University in Ohio called, "Ohio University" (should have just said that), and they have actually implemented an Esports degree. This is basically gaming, and you know what? "Fortnite" is actually in it. That means you can get a degree for playing video games at a professional level. Esports means they will be competing in tournaments as well. I guess in College you really can be whatever you want to. Well, as long as you pick the right college. I know my father certainly wouldn't be happy if I chose that degree, but maybe if I do two things at once then he won't have a problem... By the way, this was in a post I read. Implementing "Fortnite" into an Esports degree when the game doesn't even have any official tournaments proves that it really is getting popular, until next time!
