It is about two parents who are living in a society where everyone is equal in terms of talent, ability to accomplish certain things, and skills. Anyone who is considered too beautiful or handsome has to wear a mask. Anyone who is too strong has to wear weights on their chest, anyone who is too smart has to wear earphones that make a large beeping noise every 20 seconds to prevent them from thinking above and beyond. Hazel and George’s son “Harrison Bergeron” was taken away and put in custody for over 6 years until he escaped and walked in on a ballerina performance.

He went ahead and undid all of his handicaps (which there were a lot because he was above average in many ways) and they made sure that everyone knew that he was going to blow up the whole theater if they left, the audience continued to watch as he proved his triumphs. Until finally, he chose an empress from the ballerinas who were cowering in fear behind him and they both undid their handicaps and started to dance in front of everyone until Diana Moon Clampers killed them with a shotgun and the whole audience forgot it ever happened.

This is a very powerful story because it talks about the future of society and how being equal is taken to a whole new level, in terms of talent! Our main protagonist whose name is Harrison is above average in so many ways (intelligence, strength, looks, etc).

The government is trying everything they can to lower him down and make him equal to everyone else but because of this he goes ahead and walks around looking like a whole pile of trash because of all the heavy pieces of metal that are attached to his body so that he isn't as strong and fast as he would like to be. They also make him wear certain thinks like the earphones which are horrible for their ears and make them extremely vulnerable.

Also some more background information, Diana actually seems to be average because otherwise why else would she be able to run as the person who is in charge of everyone's handicaps? And finally, I have a very dire question. I just don't understand why the president isn't doing anything about this, and if he is the president he must be above average, otherwise that country is not in the right place.
