Christopher Columbus was a very famous Italian explorer. He was famous for his so called “Discovery of the New World” . People think that he was the first one to discover the Americas but he wasn’t.
Christopher columbus was born in 1451 in the republic of Genoa,Italy. Columbus’s first voyage toward the Atlantic Ocean nearly cost himself his life. He participated in many other expeditions through Africa. In 1492 Columbus left Spain in the Santa Maria alongside the Nina and the Pinta. He was credited for opening up the European colonization.
As said before his first voyage nearly costed his life. He was sailing when a fleet of French Privateers attacked him and his crew off the coast of Portugal. Columbus participated in other events toward Africa. The Muslim Domination would make trades through China and India difficult. He believed that if he sailed west he would get through. Christopher Columbus would make many reasonable explanations that were still wrong. One of his ideas were that the route would be uninterrupted by water movement.
And so Columbus gathered the courage to ask the Portuguese king for money and ships but they declined. Columbus asked many people but they always declined. The Muslim war to reclaim their land was in process so Columbus was going to have to wait. Soon he was interested by many people after the war and the Monarchs agreed to provide him anything he needed for his journey. He sailed on the Santa Maria ,Pinta and the Nina. When they set sail Columbus and the crew found 2 islands ( Cuba and what is now the Dominican Republic. He conquered the land and 37 people were left to colonize the island. Soon news came that the 37 people were all killed by the people of the island.
In Conclusion Columbus still thought that he found a new route to Asia. His legacy was very mixed. He was credited for opening Americas to the European Colonization but was blamed for the destruction of the native people and islands he explored.
THE END
