Alexander Graham Bell

Alexander Graham Bell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Raised up in the Bell family, he was expected to be like every other boy in his school, but he didn't want that. This is when Aleck was little. He named Alexander after his father and grandfather. Grandfather Bell lived in London and one day the family moved there. Aleck did not like the way London was so different from Edinburgh.  It was full of pollution and crowds. Big palaces and houses were everywhere. Edinburgh was calm and you wouldn't have to rush around. In London he had to use a cane and wear a nice black coat every single day. He had to study six days a week and have only one day of fun. I get only two if I combine all my extra time into one.

Grandfather Bell let Aleck roam around the city trusting him to be mature enough. He usually went to the library reading about sound. Alexander Graham Bell said "This period of my life seems the turning point of my whole career" and he told the truth. From then on Aleck was going to be a very serious young man. Aleck's father came to pick the whole family up and back to Edinburgh since London was only a trip. While he was picking the family up Melville (father) he took the kids to meet a man named Sir Charles Wheatstone and see his latest invention.

When Aleck was sixteen he felt too old live in his present home. He was going to pack his bags and become a sailor when he read something in a newspaper. It said he and his brother, Melly, could apply to a school. They unfortunately didn't tell their father because Aleck used his dad's name as a reference. Their dad was furious, but up to this point he made a decision. Sending his boys to the school would be educational and he said yes.

On April 23, 1865, grandfather Bell died. The whole family was devastated. Then Ted Bell died and Melly did too. The whole family was going through this continuing tragedy. Thats when Aleck was the only one left. They didn't want their only child to die of tuberculosis. Melville decided they go to Colorado and live there. It was great there! Aleck taught in a school for deaf people and was very good. TH parents of these children were very satisfied. Using the system his father made called "Visible Speech System" he made most of his students speak. Their was one parent that was extremely happy. His named was Thomas Sanders. Thomas was a business man and his son was named George.

Later on Aleck married an 18 year old woman named Mabel. Mabel did have one request for their marriage. She wanted Aleck to take the "k" out of his name so it would spell  "Alec". To her it seemed much more American. Alec agreed to this request and they married on July 11, 1877. Mabel's father, Mr. Hubbard and Thomas  later helped Alec with an invention by giving him money. Alec was trying to make the "Telephone". In the end he was the first to make the original one and patented it so it would be his, but it wasn't just him. Another friend named Thomas Watson (different man) helped him. Thats all there is to write about so goodbye.
