10/07/ 2017 Saturday Diary

When I woke up I realized it was Saturday and checked to see if my dad was in his room. When I saw that he wasn't I woke up my sister and then we both went downstairs. By that time my aunt came up and was making breakfast for the two of us. She made boiled eggs with parata (Indian bread) and I really liked it. Of course I couldn't go without the milk because that helps me digest the food down. After an hour or 60 minutes my mom came into the house and sat down my aunt, then they both started talking. That was when my dad called my mom and told me to do my homework. For homework I would have to write five paragraphs and then read 45 pages of a library book that he got.

I can't talk about the five paragraphs because I am doing that right now but I can talk about the book I read. The book I read today was called, "Yang the Eldest and His Odd Jobs". The reason I picked this book out of the 5 other books at my disposal was because this book seemed the most fun or entertaining. The cover of the book has the title (obviously) and then a picture of Yang carrying a plate full of sushi (I think) and on his other hand a hammer. On the side of his head there is a violin and then a phone on his neck. I think the author is trying to emphasize the violin because it has those little lines on it that make it look like it's shining.

I want to also talk about the author of the book. Her name is "Lensey Namioka," apparently she was born in Beijing, China and then moved to the United States with her family when she was still a child. A weekly trade news magazine by the name of "Publisher's Weekly" had commented on her writings saying that they "Shed Light on the Chinese-American culture in a manner that at times recalls Amy Tan's The Joy Luck Club". Lensey Namioka is an author with many great novels for young children (young readers). Her first three books were "Yang the Youngest and His Terrible Ear," Yang the Third and Her Impossible Family," and "Yang the Second and Her Secret Admirers". Now she lives with a husband in Seattle.

Now I want to summarize the book or at least what i've read so far (44 pages). Yang and his siblings were all in one room practicing their music. Suddenly Yang complained about his violin stating that it was making a buzzing sound that distracted him. All his siblings could hear the buzzing along with him and decided that Yang should go to "Mr. Vitelli's Violin Shop" and try to repair it. That's why the next day Yang went to Mr. Vitelli's shop to try and find out what the problem was. Yang and his whole family knew that Mr. Vitelli's shop was the best place to try and fix their instruments or ever get new ones.

When Yang got there Mr. Vitelli observed the violin and found out that the Sound bar in the violin was loose and needed to be put back together to be stable. When Yang asked how much it would cost to repair his violin Mr. Vitelli replied saying that it would be around $2,000. Yang new right away he didn't have that much money and asked to observe some of the other violins in the shop. Suddenly he came across one violin that looked really new. When asking how much money the violin would be Mr. Vitelli stated he didn't have a price on it since he only just made it. Now it would be up to Yang on how to find the money to afford a repair and with the help of his siblings he began the search.
