Like I promised today I'm going to continue and hopefully finish the summary for "Number the Stars", by Lois Lowry. The last time I wrote about the book I left off at when Annemarie's mother was worried about what happened while they were running back home. Eventually, the parents were fine and didn't say anything at all. Both Annemarie and Kirsti went to bed for the night. However, their father told them a bedtime story about the Danish King named, "King Christian". Apparently, any Danish citizen would die for King Christian because of how loyal he was to Norway. Many loved him but knew he was getting older and older every day. Then Annemarie told her father about how Sweden is still free from the Germans and he knows that is true.
Unfortunately, all this bedtime story stuff had ended on a sad note. The death of their sister, "Lise". Annemarie always asked her father how she died but the only remark he made was, "She was hit by a car". The next day, Mrs. Rosen (Ellen's mother) came to Annemarie's house and asked whether or not Ellen could stay with them. At first, it didn't seem like a big deal but when she explained the reason why Annemarie's parents got serious. They agreed and took Ellen to Annemarie so they could play. What had happened was that because Ellen and her parents were Jews the Germans despised them. They were going to come and search every home in Norway to find the Jews and take them somewhere else.
Mrs. Rosen knew this "place" wasn't good so she wanted Annemarie's parents to hide her somewhere. Both adults did not know where to put her so Annemarie's dad came up with a brilliant plan. Ellen could pretend to be Annemarie and Kirsti's sister. Her father doubted the Germans would come at night and investigate every house, turns out he was wrong. During midnight, Annemarie and Ellen heard knocking on the front door. The parents opened it and knew they were the Germans. Thankfully, Annemarie's father was prepared and even showed pictures of Lise who looked very similar to Ellen back in her younger years. The search was long and dreadful but in the end, the German's left the house.
The next day was very urgent. Ellen, Annemarie, and Kirsti didn't go to school and actually went back to her mother's old house (Annemarie's mother). There, Annemarie and Ellen were waiting and met her mother's brother. At the night the door was getting knocked so Annemarie opened it. It was Ellen's mother and father! She hugged them both and started to grow sleepy. Suddenly, the door was forced open and three German soldiers came inside the house. They wanted to know why two families were in the same room. Annemarie's mother made up a fake excuse for her mother dying and the German soldiers left, but not without a little suspicion. The next day Ellen and her parents were dropped at Annemarie's uncle. There, he could take them on a boat to Sweden, where the country was still free from the Germans. Before leaving Annemarie and Ellen made a promise to see each other again!

That was the whole book, sure I skipped a lot of details but that's because I wanted to finish it in 4 paragraphs. If I did it detail by detail it would have taken an extra 3 days. Anyway, now its time for a very intriguing post. North Korea has two figure skating competitors for the Olympics. They are really good, I know this because of the video I watched. The person who made it said he doesn't think they'll win gold, or any medal in general. However, she thinks their participation for "peace" is what will be their lasting legacy. I hate the word "lasting" because it seems like she thinks that is the onthingink they will be known for. They have won bronze in the "Asian Winter Olympics" so they are definitely already known for something. I wonder which sports the North Koreans are going to at least get a medal for in the Olympics.
