In my opinion, I think that both the companies who advertise their food and the parents are to blame. Let me explain for both sides one at a time so you can take in everything I'm saying. Let me start with the companies, now everyone knows that companies like McDonald's and other fast food restaurants are the ones that are to blame for making people eat unhealthy food. Although that doesn't mean that the food they make isn't good, actually that's how they deceive people. In their advertisements on the internet and posters, they try their hardest to make the meal as delicious or scrumptious looking as possible. And have you seen their Big Macs? They are both "Huge" (with amazing taste and flavor), but also in a bad way because of the "huge" amount of calories.
And it's not just advertising and fast food restaurants like Mc'Donalds. By now most people know or should know that the food they buy at the supermarket when packaged isn't normally good at all. Now, just take away all the organic and "natural" stuff from the menus. That's still a lot of products that are probably contaminated with pesticides and made from a warehouse far away. But either the consumers don't know that or they have no choice but to buy those foods for their families. Unfortunately, the healthiest stuff like "Organic Milk" costs a lot more than regular "Whole Milk". The reason behind that is because while regular whole milk is contaminated and processed Organic Milk has no chemicals or "bad" stuff inside of them that you should know about.
Now let me move on to the "parent's" side of this. This is pretty clear and I feel kind of bad for those that can't realize it... THE PARENTS ARE THE ONES THAT CONTROL WHAT THEIR CHILDREN ARE EATING SO TECHNICALLY IT'S ALL THEIR FAULT! Now, some may argue what about school lunch but I can say that all the parents have to do is make the children their own lunch. Other's may say that the parents may not have enough money or aren't informed about anything, but if you can't "afford" to make your child a peanut butter and jelly sandwich then you shouldn't have ever had a child in the first place. In addition, it's their job to keep the news and school website in case anything "unhealthy" is going on. Basically, there is no excuse whatsoever for children to be obese unless the parents aren't doing a good job of taking care of them.
Finally, many people would say that what if the children themselves don't listen? It's the parents who are supposed to teach their kids discipline! Otherwise, they need to go to parent counseling or find some way to end the bad stuff that's blocking you and your child's connection. You see, this is all related. The parents go ahead and buy the food or tell their children to get it for them. They know what they're buying and if they don't that's their fault for not keeping up with the latest news. I'm not going to say, "oh, get a job if you poor" because even that's a bit harsh for me but something needs to happen. Back to what I was saying before, the adults are buying products from the companies that advertise their bad food. It's all intertwined. Anyway, let's move on to my evidence for all the stuff I've been saying (which is mostly opinion based).
This some evidence from a website called, "PRNewswire", "SERMO, the leading global social network for physicians, announced today that 69 percent of doctors think parents are either completely or mostly to blame for the childhood obesity epidemic according to a recent poll of its members. The poll, which ran from Monday, August 17 – Wednesday, August 19, received 2,258 responses from doctors around the world. Thirty percent of respondents said parents are somewhat to blame and only 1 percent said they weren't to blame at all." This just proves that doctors themselves think that parents are to blame. Look at that number! Sixty Nine Percent! While only one percent think that it isn't their fault at all. "As parents, we have to set an example and to promote within our families healthy eating and healthy exercise.", is some evidence from a pediatrician who partook in the survey.
In conclusion, this is what I think about who is to blame for the growth in obesity for children. Both parents and the advertising companies are to blame for this all, although doctors seem to think that's more so the parents. Today, we've talked about why the companies are to blame for the children's obesity in America. Mainly fast food restaurants and food companies that lie about where the food they make comes from. We've also discussed why parents are to blame for this epidemic and evidence to prove it. Let me know what you think about this down below (Mr. Correa in school tell me).
