Book reading summery: Magic tree house

08/24/18

Today for my reading I read a book called, “Magic Tree House: Hurricane Heroes in Texas”. Now I used to love books like these for historical facts and kid friendly stories. Of course, nowadays I’m older so stuff like this tends to get a bit morning. But I’m all in for any Asian “Magic In the Tree House” books since I love our culture. Anyways, since my father returned all of the library books and seemed to not get anything for me I decided to read my sister’s. Now you might think that my reading would have gone by like a breeze and I’ll be honest it was a bit faster than usual. But in order to make it fair I finished the whole book instead of just reading 2 chapters like my sister would (that’s equivalent to like 15 pages) and calling it finished. So for today’s writing I’m going to be summarizing the story.

Jack and Annie are waiting by the porch of their house so there mother can drop them off at practice (they don’t mention  specific sport). Then, she says that it’s going to be raining all day so Coach Dave canceled practice. When she leaves Annie tells Jack that she got a good feeling today when waking up and somehow knew it was going to be related to the Magic Tree House. Jack didn’t complain and together they ran into the woods and climbed the ladder into the magic tree house. There, they saw a book lying on the middle of the floor that stated, “The History of Texas: Lone Star State”. This caught Jack’s eye because he remembered the last time Morgan sent them to Texas. Together, Jack and Annie pointed on a  picture in the book and said the magic words, “I wish I could go there!”.

And suddenly they felt the tree house spinning around until they couldn’t see much of what was outside the window besides a blur. After opening their eyes. Jack and Annie noticed that the sun was shining and they were wearing clothes from the 1900s. They climbed down the ladder and noticed the house that was right in front of them. It seemed that the magic tree house was placed in the backyard of a random stranger. They could hear a woman singing to her baby and slowly walked into the front yard before passing the gates and entering town. There were lots of people laughing and not worrying about anything. I mean what could possibly go wrong here? Jack was also curious as to why he had a necklace with a shiny yellow star.

Annie reminded him to go into his book bag and try to find out what happened here so they could prevent it. Apparently, A giant storm came into town and became a hurricane. It destroyed every building accept for the giant church that was in the middle. The two of them knew that they needed to warn the people and started asking for directions. Moran had a left them a note saying they needed to tell folks to get to high ground before the hurricane appeared. All the people seemed to think that there was no storm because that’s what the weatherman said but of course they didn’t have satellites or any electronics for that matter. Thats when a dark cloud started to form around area and people ran towards their homes in fear of the rain.

But in really they were going to get much more than that. Jack got info from a stranger that there was an uptown and a downtown. So they ran downtown and saw that the waves were already getting really big and hitting the boardwalk. Kids and adults were running away from the water and the duo did as best as they could to save them. Jack and Annie were able to save a little girl and two dogs before the waves were really getting huge. Even they were having trouble reaching high ground. That’s when a woman threw a rope at them and told them to grab on. She pulled them into her house and then quickly closed the door so no more water could enter. Her name was Rose and she said hi to Jack and Annie. Annie made a fake story saying that their parents were in a hotel on the the other side of to and were probably worried about them.

In the meantime Rose showed them her one year old baby and they talked. However, our of nowhere the door broke and water started pouring in like crazy. Jack and Annie grabbed some items that were getting washed away in the water and was able to create a sort of raft and paddles. They four of them were able to make it to the church in no time and everyone was safe. One of the ladies working there said that they were soon going to run out of light when Annie handed her the little necklace with the star. She thanked them and asked where their parents were. Jack told her that they were going to leave right now and wanted her to tell Rose thank you. Suddenly, they were back in their house and happy to have helped.
