The Mystery Of The Star Ruby

The Mystery Of The Star Ruby BY Gertrude Chandler  Warner  The Series Of The Boxcar Children

By Rinchen Sangpo (10 yrs)
11/01/15
The Aldens were coming home after their long vacation. Benny didn't want to leave yet. Violet,Henry and Jessie told him they had to go back to Greenfield in order to get their education and see their boxcar again. Soon enough they saw a sign that said Ruby Hollow Gem Mine. That was very amazing. The kids decided that they wanted to go to Ruby Hollow in favor of their last trip before they came back to Greenfield.

The kids arrived at the gem mine and spotted a few people. Soon the kids knew about the contest and wanted to take part in it. They each took a cabin. The girls have one cabin and the boys have the other cabin while Grandfather has the main building. As soon as Grandfather registered they went to the flume line. The flume line was filled with lots of gems. There were more then 10 gem types. Most of us got a sapphire or garnets but none of us got anything bigger so far. There were many different ranks among gems. Some Rubies were ranked by the size or hardness. There were ranks called mama bear ruby, Papa bear ruby, and baby bear ruby. Benny asked if there was a goldilocks rank. He said yes and that the goldilocks ruby was actually called a Star Ruby. It was hardest ruby to be found and very few have ever found it. When you look at it the sun shines on the ruby. To this day many people still look for it hoping to get extremely lucky.  They got complimentary buckets because it was their first day.

When they came back from the flume line the kids and grandfather met 3 very nice people or at least at first. One woman was named Sybil, another man is named Donald and the last is named Jonathan. Along with the owner of the gem mine, Mr.Knight.  Donald told all of them in the second day of the contest that he was already going to win. He said that because he had a Papa bear Ruby. The second biggest gem in the ruby class. Benny told him that we still have a bunch of days to go before the contest is over.  That night Henry and Benny heard something come from the flume line but they didn't know anyone who would dig at a time like this.

The next day the kids went to the gem mine. There they looked at all the Rubies that were found or sold to the museum.  One ruby was very special and it was the Star Ruby. The very same day Violet found a mama bear ruby. She showed the gem inspector and he said that if she wanted it mounted into a ring all she needed to do was tell him. Soon when they were eating when Jessie's backpack disappeared. When they went into their cabin the backpack was just laying their but something was very suspicious. How would the backpack get from the diner all the way to the cabin without any one of them touching it?  That night the same thing happened as the day before. A stranger was digging something from ground or even hiding something.

The day after the kids went to the wade. Their they looked near the water to find some gems. The water should have already rinsed some of the dirt away from the gems so it would be easier for them to find it. Finally something amazing happened. Jessie found a Star Ruby. Hardest ruby in the world to find. Later someone stole Jessie's backpack again. They found out that the culprit was Donald since he said he would win  the contest. His Papa Bear ruby was actually a fake and in addition he wanted the whole gem mine from Cecil Knight but couldn't. Donald was Mr.Knights brother. Their father passed down the gem mine through family tradition and Cecil Knight just happened to be chosen. Donald was jealous.

The kids had a fun time at the Ruby Hollow Gem Mine. Jessie won the contest with her star ruby. Before there was a huge storm that struck the library. Jessie decided that after the contest she would sell her ruby in order to rebuild the library and add new books to it. Some of us were very happy and others were shocked. The ruby costed thousands of dollars and she was going to waste it all on books? Before the contest was over Benny decided to have some more food to eat. He  had a big appetite after all.

The Dalai Lama

Dear readers
Today I am going to write something this for my father 's birthday. It was my father's Birthday a few days ago and I didn't know until my father accidentally told me. I never got the chance to write him a birthday card or to even sing a song to him. Not even my sister knew it That is why I told him I would write an article about the Dalai Lama in order to give him my respect. So here it is.

The Fourteenth Dalai Lama
.

The Dalai lama is the 14th spiritual and political leader for Tibet.  His past lives have shown great courage and passion and now he is doing the same thing. He once fled to safety in India with his buddhists while the Chinese war to control Tibet. Since then he has been following the traditions and religious buddhism.

When the Dalai lama was born his name was Lhamo Thondup. He was born in July sixth 1935 in a village called Taktsar. There he was chosen to be the Dalai lama. He was asked many thing by the buddhists and answered them all correctly. That was how they knew he was the chosen one. He was only 2 years old at the time. He had a family of 4 boys and 2 girls. Along with a mother and father. The lived really close to a monastery and had a lot of gutters. That was how the buddhists found him. All of them had a vision of the new Dalai lama being in a place like this. We Tibetans believe in something called reincarnation. This happens for every Dalai lama. When they die they are reincarnated into another Tibetan and the cycle keeps on going.

The monks took Lhamo to a place in Tibet called Kumbum. Their he was taught about education and also teachings on buddhism and political speaking. Soon he left and went to Potola in Lhasa. He was now the leader of his nation. The monks taught him everything he needed to know. His onlyy classmate was one of his brothers. Whenever the Dalai Lama misbehaved his brother was punished instead of him. The Dalai lama also loved gadgets and mechanical stuff. The thirteenth Dalai lama was just like him. There were only 4 cars in Tibet and 3 of them were owned  by the thirteenth Dalai lama. Soon he took over the leadership of political issues. At the same time the Chinese communist army was plotting to take over the country. He was 15 and already leading the country in a blink of an eye.

The Dalai lama learned Buddhism soon after. He was recognized as the political leader for mostly every person in Tibet. He worked hard to help people who managed to flee from the country due to China. HE was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for doing this. He remains active to this day and still helps people. No wonder he is noticed as one of the best political leader in the world. He wants peace, wisdom, and prosperity.

Endangerment of Tibetan Yak

The Endangerment of the Golden Yak

Richen Sangpo

Yaks are bovids (a mammal that lives in a cattle family) that live in India and Tibet. Before they used to roam free in Bhutan and Nepal. Over the years people thought they might be extinct but they were wrong or at least half wrong. The Yak population is decreasing over the years. There are two different type of yaks. One type is the wild one. Those Yaks roam free and mate with other females. The live in higher regions of land away from people. The other type of Yak is the Domestic kind. These yaks live with people down in the ground.  Previously they have been confirmed as endangered but now they are even more vulnerable.

Unlawful Hunting:
The Yak population is dropping for numerous reasons . One of them is the unlawful hunting.
Most Yaks are hunted for there flesh. The males are highly expected to be captured than females due to there habit of leaving the females stomping in the hills.

Protection:
Yaks now mostly live and are protected by the Changtang Nature Reserve which by the way is a 200,000 square km grassland. The Golden Yak is not only known for its flesh but its luxurious fur coat that surrounds it. The animals such as the Tibetan Antelope, Kiang and the wild Tibetan Ass. They are difficult to locate due to the fact that they have an acute smell. This special scent allows them to detect when humans come and they run for the hills. Thanks to the fight of helping the yaks they have grown from 170 to 2011.

Domesticated Yaks:
The presence of Domesticated Yaks is troubling for the future. When the domestic yaks employ their living environment on the wild yaks it makes competition for land harder. Wild yaks live in mountain landscapes . There could also be a numerous amount of diseases between the domestic and wild yaks.Wild yaks are scientifically larger in size and their coloration is different.

In conclusion these are my reasons on why I think Yaks are one of the most highly endangered species in the world.

Nate The Great and the Owl Express

Nate the great was on a train to Los Angeles.  He was with his buddy Sludge. Sludge was a dog and he was also a detective. For today they were both bodyguards. Nate was guarding a special cage with an owl named Hoot. Hoot was Olivia's pet. Olivia was also another detective. The reason Nate and sludge were on the train was because Olivia wanted them to take Hoot to the docket in Los Angeles. The reason was because Hoot didn't like to fly.Olivia said she would catch up with them later.

She said that when the time was right she will appear. "For now Willie will take you to the airport" Olivia said. Willie was Olivia's chauffeur or limo driver. The last thing she wanted Nate to know was that she thought someone might want to take Nate for themselves. The reason for this hypothesis was that she found a letter  that stated someone might want to take her away.  That is why Nate is the bodyguard.

When they got in the limo Willie was already there. Nate was glad Hoot and his cage were not with them and was put on the front seat. When they arrived at the train Willie took the cage to their seats and then went off.

Nate arrived at his seat with sludge. They were both sitting when Nate got an idea. He thought that maybe he might want to search the train. In case the person who wrote the anomonous letter would be here. He searched the first two doors and nothing. Then on the third one he saw a woman. The woman said that she knew Hoot. Nate asked her if she liked hoot and sh replied with a no. Hoot mad her sneeze. One suspect.

Then Nate checked some more and saw another door. There the man was  musician. He loved hoot and also loved rhymes. He said that Hoot was very cool. He told Nate that another person lived in the same apartment and was on the train. He was named the Owl Man. When Nate checked  on the owl man he looked just like Hot but he didn't like the owl. Soon enough Nate went back to his seat and slept.

When Nate woke up again Hoot was gone. He disappeared. Nate was also hungry so he ordered some food before he began to investigate. When he was done a note came to him. It said that Olivia was on the train in the last car.

Nate went to the last car of the train. When he opened the door he saw Olivia sitting in her desk writing some papers. He found out who wrote the letter. It was the Musician guy. He wrote the letter as a get well sign. He didn't write it to be creepy at all.  He also was working on rhymes so that si why the word away at the end of the poem sounded suspicious.

Jackie Robinson's story

THE AMAZING
JACKIE ROBINSON

Jackie Robinson became the first black player in the major leagues in 1947, signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
He was named Rookie of the Year in 1947, National League MVP in 1949 and a World Series Champ in 1955.

EARLY LIFE

Jack Roosevelt Robinson was born on January 31,1919, In Cairo, Georgia. Breaking the barrier against Blacks and  Whites he became the first Black American player to enter the major leagues. He was the youngest child in his family . He attended a college by the name of  Pasadena Junior College. There he learned to be an excellent athlete and played 4 popular sports. Football, Basketball,Track and Baseball. He was named most Valuable player in Baseball. In 1936 his older brother  Matthew Robinson, inspired him to pursue the talent of athletics in the first place. In 1936 Matthew won the silver medal for the 200 meter track run at the Olympic games in Berlin. Jackie continued to devote himself into his education and was the first student to win a variety of letters in the four sports. Soon Jackie was a member in the World War  2. He  was put in captivity or jail because he wouldn’t give his spot in a segregated bus. Soon enough with the help of his friends and his excellent reputation he got an astounding  jailbreak.

BREAKING THE COLOR BARRIER

Soon after his discharge in the army Jackie began to play Baseball professionally. At that time the sport was segregated which meant that white teams and black teams had to play in separate leagues. Jackie began playing in the Negro Leagues but was soon chosen by Branch Rickey. He was the president of the Brooklyn Dodgers.  He moved to Florida and trained with the Royals. The Brooklyn Dodgers were a farming team for the Royals.

BASEBALL HERO

Rickey knew that there would difficult times ahead for Jackie so he tested him. Rickey tested Jackie’s reaction around the racial abuse of the audience. The team captain stood up for Jackie. One time  Jackie was being yelled at from the crowd. The team captain stood up for him and put his hand around his shoulder. That is one of the most  legendary gestures ever made in Baseball history! He succeeded in putting the racism aside and  showed everyone what he was made of. In his first year he set 12 home runs and helped the Brooklyn Dodgers win the National League Pennant. Robinson was also named Rookie of the Year and the Leagues most Valuable player award. He soon became a hero and popular of the sport. He opened the doors for Satchel Paige,Willie Mays and Hank Aaron.

CAUSES AND LEGACY

After his retirement from Baseball , Robinson became more active in social change. Robinson served in the NAACP( National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) until he was inducted  in the HALL OF FAME! Jackie died from heart problems and diabetes compilation. He survived with his wife and 2/3 of his children. When he died his wife established the Jackie Robinson Foundation. This foundation provided scholarships and mentoring programs to young people in need.

Magic Tree House #27

Today I am going to talk about a Magic Tree House book called Thanksgiving on Thursday.

Jack and Annie were in their house packing up to go to their Grandmother's house. Annie said she had a feeling that the Magic Tree House was in the woods. Jack said no way because they were already so close to finishing up packing. Annie didn't care and told her father that she was going to come in 10 minutes. Jack couldn't leave her by herself and went with. When they looked at the tallest oak tree there it was. The Magic Tree house. "You were right!" Jack said. When they got inside Jack and Annie looked at their accomplishments. The found the theater scroll and they also found the twig of the animals. This proved that stye accomplished their missions. Evidence. Their next mission was to go to the feast. It is called "A feast to remember".  Annie said she wished she could go there. The tree house started to spin. It spun faster and faster. Then everything was still, absolutely still.

When they opened there eyes Jack read from the research book. It said that they were in the time of the First Thanksgiving. When the pilgrims came to Plymouth or what is now Massachusetts. The pilgrims wanted to go to New York City but the winds forced there ship to go the the way and here they went.  Jack and Annie were so excited to meet Squanto, Priscilla,Governor Bradford and Miles Standish. First they needed to make a plan in case they couldn't understand us. The language then was not very different but they used many different words of speech.

As they climbed the ladder down Annie saw a skinny dog. She wanted to play with it. As soon as the dog saw her it barked as loud as it could. Two pilgrims came from either side and more came in later. Soon they were surrounded in surveillance. The both tried to climb back up. When Jack started up something trapped his foot and he flipped upside down in the air. Squanto and the rest of the crew were right in front of them.  Squanto looked at them carefully. Governor Bradford and Miles Standish looked angry, mostly Miles Standish anyway. He had a gun in his and was ready to shoot. Squanto told them that he knew Jack and Annie. Miles dropped his gun and the rest left. As the two went off into the town Priscilla told them about the feast. They both wanted to help each other out.

Priscilla gathered all of the kids and told them that they needed more food for the feast. The chief Massasoit was walking toward them and 90 men lined behind him. Jack and Annie tried to help as mush as they could. They went into the bay and tried to catch Eels and Clams. The eels were too hard to catch and they didn't want to end the lives of the clams by catching them. At least they helped by carrying the huge pumpkin. Jack and Annie went to her house and helped roast a turkey. Unfortunately the turkey burned but at least  a bunch of other villagers make turkeys too. The feast was beautiful and they were so stuffed. In the end Life was GREAT OR SPECTACULAR IN MANY WAYS!

When they magic themselves back home Jack andante knew how hard life was for the Pilgrims. At least god helped them with a beautiful harvest.

First Fifth Grade Field Trip to Mont Clair University

Today I am going to talk about my field trip to the Mont Clair University. I love the University. When I was in the bus getting ready to buckle up I was sitting with some of my friends. The teacher said we could sit anywhere as long as we don't make a lot of noise. I sat with Lyric and Anthony. Anthony just became my friend and Lyric was a friend on the second day of school.

We were looking at Lyric's camera and soon enough the battery died. I volunteered to recharge it by switching the position of the battery and trying again. Eventually I figured that my plan wouldn't work so I gave up and handed it back. Then he took out the battery and put it in again. The positioning was the exact same and nothing change at all. When he put the battery in the camera it worked again. I didn't know why. He might have a trick up his sleeve.

When we reached the University I started to recognize it. When I was in Fourth Grade I went to the exact same place but I didn't get a tour. I only watched a play. Now we got to have a WHOLE TOUR OF THE CAMPUS! It was going to be an amazing trip and after this something else is going to happen.

As we were walking down the university we got a tour guide.  She showed us what was happening in the school and what the place is like. First we arrived at the theater. We saw a huge set of stairs leading either to the woods or to another side of the campus. Then we went further in and found the cafe hall along with the quiet rooms. People were using their laptops to go on Facebook or even the internet. We were close to the set of stairs down the campus and also through the snack shack.

I think that this is going to be an amazing university for all scholars who attend . I think that when I grow up I want to go to a special college where people are king to one another. Not like whats happening right now. A college is a privilege and an important one. If you get a chance to go to a great college grasp that opportunity and turn it into your goal. Remember making a choice is important. Picking a college and even going to one is a tremendous chance and one in a lifetime. Express that moment with you feelings and never ever doubt yourself.

I am done with the Mont Clair University field trip but now I am going to talk about a very special sport. The very awesome sport Baseball. We went to the Yogi Bear Museum. Last week Yogi Bear died because he was very old. His wife died last year and so he has a lot of pain. We got to go to the theater they had and we watched a lot of baseball bloopers. Where we watched some of the best players make some of the silliest mistakes. It was so funny. Later on we got to get a tour of the museum. Finally we ended the tour and actually went on the ride home.

As we went home me and my friends played a ton of games. I asked a few questions to my teacher about the places we passed and we went to the school. When we arrived at the school my teacher told us to take out our science packets and answer the questions. I answered a question and got 3 class dojo points. Then I went to aftercare. I did my homework for the whole period. Then I went home.

HOPE YOU ENJOYED AND SEE YOU LATER!
