Post 13

Its been a long time since I’ve written a post. I know you guys might not understand, but its been a few days since I got on the computer and made a post. Don’t worry. Anyway I wanted to address to you all that I finished “ The Last Lecture”. In all honesty this book was actually pretty good and made me curious. Out of all the biographies and autobiographies that i’ve read this has ought to be the best one so far. It really goes into detail about the life of Randy Pausch and his childhood to his adult hood. The thing that makes me curious is that at the end of the book it doesn’t say wether he died or didn’t which really confuses me. Unless its somewhere in the acknowledgements and I haven’t read it.

Everyday I got to read this and in total it took about 8 days to finish. Of course I could have finished it in one day, but I only read about 10 chapters ever day (more or less). In total there are 61 chapters. It feels good to finish the book. However now I want to talk to you about it. I know for my previous post I just talked about the first 6 chapters and what I knew. Small bits of information such as how Randy had a wife named Jai and three children. Chloe, Dylan, and Logan. Another thing I talked about was how he had cancer and he was going to die in 3 to 6 months. Anyhow lets get started.

For some reason the man really called himself a nerd and talked about how his favorite movie was “ Star Trek”. Now I know that Star Trek wasn’t my favorite and wouldn’t be my favorite even if I lived back then. Anyway he apparently liked the character “ Kirk” and how he had the one trait he admired most, leadership. Randy Pausch even said the only way to be the coolest guy at an amusement part was to have the biggest stuffed animal. Now I know that the coolest person in an amusement park nowadays is whoever has the most tickets. If you don’t agree with me let me know why. One last thing that Randy said he experienced during his childhood was how his favorite place on Earth was Disney World.

Now here comes the part about him being older. In the Summer of 2006 Randy’s first medical problem came. He felt a short jolt of pain in his body and went to the doctors. They figured he had hepatitis when in reality Randy had pancreatic cancer. This was a serious issue that needed to be dealt with and suddenly the doctors were able to fix it. Or so they thought because soon enough they realized the cancer had moved all the way into Randy’s liver. The bad thing was that Jai and Randy both cried to the point where they laughed. However the funny thing was that Randy saw how the doctor was talking to Jia and putting his hand on her. He wished other men whose wife hadn’t been tricked into this would see.

The last thing I’m going to talk about is his University and further adulthood. Since he worked at the University of Virginia there were lots of kids. One particular kid was named Dennis and he was a very good student. The only problem was that his Algebra was awful and he was getting an F. Every other subject was always an A. Thats when Randy stepped in and talked about Dennis to the dean because the dean was planning on kicking him out. That is why the dean gave Dennis another chance and Dennis passed Algebra. It was a very happy accomplishment for Dennis and Randy.

The last two things i’ll talk about is something about Disney world and Jai’s birthday. Randy talked about how his family went to Disney World once and bought a $100,000 salt and pepper shaker. It was a great day for his family and a somewhat amazing day for Disney. That was how much Randy and his family loved Disney. To be able to actually afford a $100,000 salt and pepper shaker and still pay for food and games. Now I know what your thinking. What does Jai’s birthday have to do with anything in the book. Well in truth thats how the book ends. Randy makes a speech and at the end celebrates Jai’s birthday as well. On the last slide it shows Randy Pausch and Jai, as well as Chloe, Dylan, and Logan.
