The first period was Social Studies and my teacher was finally here for our class. As you already know he hasn't been in the school for the past three days. Anyway, during that class, he explained why he hadn't been at school but for some reason, I just didn't get it. He kept on going really deep and saying stuff like, "Oh it's all about life". I just didn't understand, did he have an appointment or something? Literally, the man said, "Sometimes you go through phases in your life and I've decided that this phase that I'm in will embarrass the others immensely". After he talked about why he wasn't at school we discussed a video called, "This is America". It's actually a song made by "Childish Gambino" and I thought it was really good. Now, of course, some people may think it's not that good for kids but the video had a deeper meaning to it.

And thankfully, due to my amazing thinking and the help of some students we were able to identify the meanings. Also, this song was really "surprising" because sometimes there would be "happy" moments when everything was peaceful and then suddenly a beat would drop and everything flipped upside down. So there would be violence and chaos everywhere. Let me point out the parts that you missed or that had a deeper meaning. 1. the pants that "Childish Gambino" was wearing had actually been worn by Confederate soldiers during the Civil War. 2, there was a white horse that came in the background and that represents evil and Hell. 3, in the music vid everything takes place in a warehouse, and there wasn't a single black person in that video. And you know how warehouses usually have stuff that is supposed to be kept hidden or bad, like guns?

Well, instead of "guns" it represents "Black People" and how back then they were thought to be dangerous and chaotic. 4, in the video "Childish Gambino", uses a gun (doesn't actually kill people) and shoots people in the warehouse. This includes a man who was tied (we'll talk about that soon) and a group of pastors. This signifies how laws on Gun Control need to be taken care of and fast, because of the Parkland Shooting. 5, in the start of the video a man was tied and then shot by "Childish Gambino". This represents how slaves (primarily black people), would jump over slave ships because they'd rather kill themselves quickly than to suffer and then tire yourself out to the point where you die of exhaustion. As the saying goes in the "Black Panther", "Death over Bondage".

Those were most of the points shown in the video. Now I want to talk about a poem that I wrote during class. Basically, we were supposed to write a Sonnet based on "This is America". My teacher asked us to use "Volta" or sudden changes in the mood. So you could go from happy to sad immediately, but sometimes it needs to be explained or have a purpose. The teacher gave my class ten minutes to write but almost everyone wanted another 5 since they couldn't finish. I wanted my poem to rhyme (since that was supposed to take longer or be hard) and fit the descriptions of a Sonnet. Anyway, I hope you enjoy and just to let you know...  THIS WAS NO COPIED AT ALL, PLS DON'T THINK THAT BECAUSE I WORKED HARD ON THIS!

This is America

America is the land of life and liberty,
But also a place that is filled with lots of creativity,
It's the place where people don't have to be afraid,
And the area where those that can help will be brave,
Others will seek what is called the "American Dream",
Some may seek high and some may seek low,
But let me tell you it's the place of the proud and the free,
And you have no restrictions to your liberty,

Terrorists come to America to feed their thirst to kill,
while others just want to work and pay their bills,
Violence and hatred will be everywhere,
So be prepared to face the injustice of despair,
America is filled with people like Donald Trump who think they can lead,
but thankfully for America, have no hear cause I am here,
