The reasons that we TIbetans are refugees is because we were exiled out of Tibet or China took over our country and were murdering our people one by one. We were basically colonized and at this point we were told that we could no longer live there, or the people who were in the area were forced to move out of their homes, and some Tibetans sought refuge in other countries while some just decided to move villages or become nomads. And that’s one of the reasons why my parents decided to live in America.
Now of course my mom lived in India but before that her ancestors must’ve been from Tibet and then they moved into India for refuge. My dad can barely even go to Tibet and in order to do that he has to go through tons and tons of paperwork that just piles on top of each other, physically and virtually speaking. We lost our country to China back in 1959. This is argued to the be point where China defeated Tibet once and for all because they made it so that the TIbetan government was illegal which means no Tibetans would be able to coordinate a plan to take back Tibet from China.
Sure we’ve tried many and countless attempts to defeat China but they were just little uprisings that were easily squashed by China’s great surface. Tibetans are now rallying in the streets of America, China, TIbet, and many more countries to prove that they deserve their country back and to use non-violent approaches to face the Chinese government. There was a parade that happened in New York maybe like 2 weeks ago where a couple of people were speaking about “Free Tibet” and then they did like this march where a couple of “really” passionate men started yelling stuff in front of everyone at New York and it just so happens that he was marching right next to me as I was watching K-pop and trying to ignore all the sounds.
Although China invaded TIbet in the 1950s we have shown fierce resolve and our culture still lives on as we create more families in America and other countries. We are still populating and China will not get rid of the Tibetans. It was a really rough time for all Tibetans and China should know that we deserve our country back, our culture is based off of TIbetan Buddhism and there are different types of Buddhism.
The leader of Tibet right now, at least spiritually is the 14th Dalai Lama and his name is, “Lhamo Thondup” and he has lived for quite a bit. He is a very important person and has been invited to speak to countless important people in the world who may help him and his countries non-violent approach to regaining their country.
