Unfortunately, I wasn't able to post yesterday because of the Internet problem. Apparently, my mom didn't pay the bill so we couldn't use the internet. That was why you didn't see the post yesterday (papa). Because of that, I couldn't go on youtube and really "use" my free time. Thankfully, my dad had let me watch Ted Talk on the "Podcast" app. Anyway, let's begin at the start of the day! I got up at 6:00 A.M and turned off the alarm. Then rushed over to my sister and woke her up. I didn't know that my father would be off on Wednesday but it was probably because on Tuesday he went for work. I ran downstairs to the bathroom and started changing into my school clothes (don't usually change that earlier but it was my father). I wanted to show my dad that I knew how to tie my tie.
However, he didn't approve and did it his own way. The way I learned it was from a 2-minute video on Youtube. After the "fixed" my tie I went back down to the bathroom and brushed my teeth. My mother bought 3 new toothbrushes for me, my sister, and dad. I told her not to throw away my father's brush because he might not have wanted the new one. I wasn't going to risk him getting mad, especially with the blood pressure. For breakfast, he made the same egg sandwich as usual (whenever he has a day off). I actually kind of wanted cereal but of course didn't argue. At 8:00 A.M I said goodbye to my parents and left the house. There wasn't any point of going to the deli-grocery store since I had no money.
Once I got to the school there were only a few kids in the class. That meant that my bus was probably the first ones. That just really confuses me because we got to the school at 8:39 A.M and usually that is late. In addition, every other day besides this the other buses come before us. Maybe there was a traffic jam and the bus had to take a detour, that would explain it. The other kids who were already in the class probably were dropped off at 8:30 A.M and came inside. The first period was Social Studies and the teacher talked about a kid named "Oda Benga" (now dead) who was brought to America from Africa and taken to the St. Louis World Fair. Apparently, Oda Benga was taken back to Africa and then was taken back to be part of the "Bronx Zoo".
He was put in an exhibit with Orangutans and Chimpanzees. The name of the Exhibit was called, 'The Missing Link". This "title" referred to him as an example of a caveman and the "white" man. He was put in the exhibit as some sort of evidence to prove what came before white people. It must have felt really bad to actually be a human like everyone else but still treated differently because of the way he looked. But I guess that was how all blacks were treated back at the time. Soon enough he was taken to a location (forgot the name) and got good care from the people there. Unfortunately, Oda Benga committed suicide from a gun at the age of 33(either pistol or rifle). The even worse thing was how he knew the English language (scarcely) and could understand what the people were saying as they saw him (at the Bronx Zoo).
Google News
I really feel bad for this man to be treated so badly as a child. They fed him just like they would to the monkeys. His parents were both killed in tribal warfare (back in Africa). I wonder how this information was known. This guy must have shared out or known English. Otherwise, it seems impossible for the explorers at the time to find out about this. Maybe they saw in action his parents get killed and decided to take him to America for that reason. Either way, it's sad and represents what Americans were like at the time. For the news, I wanted to share something really exciting! A new hero came out in "Overwatch"! She is called, "Bridgette) and is a tank. I can't wait to play her and see if she becomes a character I enjoy playing! Anyway, that is it for today's post!
