Since I haven't gone outside today and probably won't because of the rain (coming soon) this post will about a book I'm reading called, "Open House". The book was written by "Elizabeth Berg" and is a novel. When my father first introduced me to this book I thought the title was also some type of TV show. However, when I tried to find out about it no information popped on the screen. Either way, I've read about a decent amount and like the story concept so far. That is why today I'm going to summarize what I've read from chapter 1-9 so hopefully, you enjoy.  But before I start summarizing let me give some background information on the author. "Elizabeth Berg" was born on December 2, 1948, and an American novelist (as you should already know).

Summary of Chapters 1-9

Samantha Morrow is the main character of "Open House" or the "Protagonist". I don't know whether Protagonist is the correct word because usually, you use that in fiction books. Anyway, let's begin! The book starts off with the devastating info that Samantha's (Sam for short) husband no longer wants to continue their marriage. And you should know that when two adults don't want to be together anymore its more or less going to be a divorce. The husband's name is David and he leaves their 11-year-old son "Travis" to Samantha. The first day after their divorce Sam tries to start fresh. She makes a new fancy breakfast and puts on her bathrobe to collect the newspaper. Travis reluctantly walks downstairs into the kitchen and asks for the regular "Cheerios" (a cereal brand).

Samantha tries to explain the divorce situation and how she wants to start fresh. It seems as though Travis does understand because later in the story he tells Samantha he's known the whole time. Samantha is disappointed that her own son just won't listen to her. She expects him to do exactly what she says but he wants to follow their regular routine back when David was still part of the family (living in the same house). Eventually when Travis goes to school Samantha decides to get back at David for leaving her and him (son). That is why she goes out and fins a kind salesman and his partner. They are selling tea sets and all types of jewelry. Apparently, Sam suddenly has a type of wanting for expensive tea sets so she gets the most expensive (including a dessert spoon)set and a gold bracelet.

While going back home she sees a mother and her baby asking people for a job or money. Since Samantha never actually needed the gold bracelet (she has gotten many from David himself back when they were still engaged) she decided to be compassionate and give the bracelet to the mother. At first, the mother is skeptical because no sane person would just hand a 3,000 dollar piece of jewelry like that, would they? However, Samantha explains she wants to hand it over tot he mother and her child if it will benefit them. At that point, the mother gratefully excepts it and tells her "God Bless You". Side note: when I read this it definitely showed a sign of compassion that many people would refuse to even believe in. The next time I don't a topic to write about this will be it.

Google News

Back to the Florida shooting crisis, there was a story about deputy's who didn't enter the school even though the shooter was inside. At the start of the story, it said that the Sheriff wasn't going to suspend or give any trouble to those deputy's accused unless the accusations were in fact true. At the end of the story, it was found that one of the deputies was in fact suspended for not entering the school. Since the deputy himself fit the requirements in order to retire he did that as soon as he found out the department had suspended him. I wonder what are the requirements in order to retire? You must be old right? In Social Studies my teacher put on a video about the Florida School shooting survivors on CNN against the NRA? I don't totally get what they were talking about in between but I do know the reason. It was to enforce gun control in the state of Florida. The girl who was speaking against the NRA representative was yelling and screaming although I agree with what she said yelling at someone who is older and has more experience should not be permitted in addition. It seemed like the whole audience actually witnessing this arguement were survivors themselves so it wasn't really. Anyway, that is it for today's post!
